2014 has been a big year for iconic Walsh Bay hotel and WBAC member, Pier One Sydney Harbour - formerly known as The Sebel Pier One.
In February owner Bob Magid handed over the hotel’s management to Marriott International as Accor’s lease ceased.
New custodians Marriot instigated a number of changes including; relaunching the venue as Australia's inaugural hotel within the groups' Autograph Collection – a select niche of independent hotels across the world, appointing Kim Mahaffy as General Manager and announcing a number of hotel upgrades.
As the hotel nears completion of its beautification, which encompasses a new reception and lobby area, restaurant (to be headed up by a yet to be named celebrity chef) and outdoor pier space, management says visitors to the waterfront site will be treated to a unique Sydney experience that is ‘exactly like nothing else’.
“We are taking the property in a direction that will introduce a distinctly different hotel experience, exquisitely presented with a focus on global trends and designs whilst staying focused on our local message,” Pier One General Manager, Kim Mahaffy says.
“Our beautification upgrades will ensure Pier One is considered the only place to stay in Sydney for those that expect the unexpected.”
Along with checking out the recent changes Pier One has a few special events coming up for visitors including a Sunrise to Sunset experience including morning Tai Chi and afternoon sundowners as well as drink, dance and dine New Year’s Eve packages that start from $399 per head.
