About 1000 people took up Barangaroo's invitation to visit the Headland Park construction site on August 4. They came from across Sydney, Victoria and as far away as Brazil!

The Open Day was a free public event that offered a rare opportunity to view the creation of the Headland Park and to see the many different construction activities underway behind the scenes of a major construction site.

Large machinery and information boards were placed along the site journey to the various staffed information points where the activities were explained to visitors.

Kids were entertained by a jumping castle, and petting zoo and balloon animals, while a sausage sizzle raised funds for Weave, an organisation which helps socially excluded young people, women, children and families in the Sydney Metropolitan area. Construction and engineering firm Baulderstone is building the Headland Park from a design by world-renowned landscape architect Peter Walker.

The six hectare waterfront Headland Park will be a major new attraction for residents and visitors to Sydney. Once complete, the Park and foreshore will feature expansive views as well as bush walks, picnic areas, walking paths and tidal pools.

Opportunities to reinterpret the remnants of the sandstone retaining wall into the landscape of the Headland Park are currently being explored.
